Level 2 Certificate in Driving Goods Vehicles
Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for anyone with a B driving licence. It is a nationally recognised civilian qualification and is based on the Driving Goods Vehicle National Occupational Standards (NOS). The Certificate proves your skills and knowledge, demonstrating to potential employers your competencies in not just driving correctly, but also preparing a vehicle, loading and unloading, contributing to customer service, and planning routes and timings in logistics operations.
It also proves wider competencies as you’ll also achieve Functional Skills Level 1 in both maths and English.
With this qualification you will complete several units (as well as Functional Skills) including:
Skills for Logistics Employers Rights & Responsibilities Workbook
Prepare the Van for Driving
Obtain Information on the Collection and/or Delivery of Loads
Load the Van Correctly
Protect the Van and Load
Drive the Van on Public Roads in a Safe and Fuel Efficient Manner
Operate and Monitor the Van Systems
Manoeuvre the Van in Restricted Spaces
Plan the Route and Timings for the Collection and Delivery of Goods.
How long is the course?
Minimum of one year.
Free to RA personnel if eligible for the apprenticeship, otherwise £240 for RA personnel (or £65 with SLC). £300 for non RA personnel (or £125 with SLC).
Most of the assessment will happen in your workplace, with the addition of some tests for Functional Skills (if required). You will complete a portfolio of evidence, under the guidance of the MTWO (or another qualified assessor), and your progress will be reviewed regularly with achievable targets set to ensure you complete the qualification on time.
Where do I study?
Normally you will start the qualification in Phase 2 training on completion of a Service Driver Conversion (SDC) and complete it at your unit. Should you wish to join the apprenticeship at a later date, please speak to your regimental Personal Development Advisor.
If you are not serving in the RA but feel that you are in a suitable role for the course, then speak to a member of our team to find out if you can take it as a standalone qualification.
Speak to your PD Advisor for details, otherwise, call the Logistics Programme Manager on 94322 5097/01980 845097.
