About the course

This course is available to anybody who has some experience of offering advice and who would like to be more involved in the delivery of Information, Advice or Guidance (IAG). It is a nationally recognised qualification and the ideal launch pad for a future career within an advice and guidance role.
You will develop your skills, share best practice and increase your confidence in information, advice or guidance delivery.

The programme will provide you with an understanding of:
• Factors which influence the effectiveness of information, advice or guidance in individual or group sessions
• Increase in awareness on the range of resources available in specific organisations
• When it is appropriate to signpost or refer clients to other agencies
• How to monitor and evaluate referrals.

Gaining this qualification shows potential civilian employers that you have the right training and skills for the job.
 

Content

Two mandatory units cover the core skills where you’ll learn exactly what information, advice or guidance is and how to develop your interaction skills with clients.
You’ll then do 3 optional units which will have been chosen to find the best fit for you, covering such topics as:
• Signposting and referral
• Monitoring and evaluating your service delivery
• Factors affecting specific clients
• Discriminatory practice
• Managing various types of information

How long does the course take to complete?

Eight - ten weeks on average but some learners complete in less time.

Assessment

You will be required to complete 5 assessments during your course. These can be either handwritten in the booklet itself or completed using an electronic template of the booklet.
These assessments will be the evidence required to demonstrate your competence in this sector. Your assessor will be on hand to help you with your portfolio. Once complete, you will submit the portfolio for certification.

At home, at work - wherever you prefer to study.
 

What's next?

Level 3 Certificate or a Level 4 Diploma in IAG which is available online through various providers. You will be able to achieve these as you enhance your skills and experience in this sector.
