About the course
This Level 5 Diploma is a full civilian teaching qualification, accepted by colleges and training providers. You will focus on cementing your skills as a teacher. You will need to have access to at least 100 hours of suitable teaching practice and be able to be observed numerous times in your workplace. You will receive generous support in your own workplace as well as be encouraged to provide focused self-evaluation. This course is especially suitable to anyone who has already achieved a Level 3 or Level 4 teaching qualification.
If you wish to go straight to the Level 5 Diploma but have no previous Education and Training qualifications, there is an online Access course which costs £200 and for which you can use your SLC.
You will study teaching and learning methodologies and strategies in depth and undertake a small research project relating to your teaching practice.
You will cover the following topics:
Teaching, learning and assessment
Developing teaching, learning and assessment
Theories, principles and models
Wider professional practice and development
Developing, using and organising resources
Teaching in a specialist area
How long is the course
The course is delivered and assessed over approximately 12 - 15 months. During this time you will study a range of units and will be observed teaching at least eight times. This amount of time is favourable over the regular 2 years required to achieve this qualification in a college.
£2400 but you can use your ELC and/or can pay in instalments. RACPD is ELC provider number 1620.
You will compile a comprehensive portfolio of evidence, including lesson plans and written work which you will submit during and at the end of the course.
Where do I study?
You will study online and independently in your own time. You will also need to attend group workshops approximately once per month. Currently these are held in a central location (anticipated to be in Plymouth or Larkhill).
A job in the Education & Training sector however, you will need a subject specialism, please speak to your tutor for advice. You can apply to the society for Education & Training to achieve QTLS - Qualified Teaching Learning and Skills status and then teach in secondary schools. You can also progress on to a degree or Masters.
